Doctrine---teaching,
learning
Sound--wholesome, healthy, uncorrupt
Sound Doctrine---wholesome, healthy, uncorrupt teaching.
Titus 2:1
Members of the early church first saw sound doctrine as faithful
behavior. After Pentecost, Christian doctrine began to be taught and
obeyed. (Acts 2:42) Doctrinal instruction was given by special teachers to
those who had responded to the gospel. (Romans 6:17).
The earliest doctrine of the Christian church declared: (1) that Jesus
was the Messiah, the Christ (Acts 3:18); (2) that God had raised Him from
the dead (Acts 1:22, 2:24,32): (3) and that salvation was by faith in His
name (Acts 2:38; 3:16). These three truths were presented as a clear
fulfillment of the promises of the Old Testament. Paul taught that true
doctrine--both behavior as well as belief--is essential for Christian
growth. 1Timothy 4:6; 6:3 Titus 1:9 and that the opposite destroys the
church. (Ephesians 4:14; 2 Timothy 4:3)

Five channels of doctrine:
Psalms 19:7-11
1. The law---a general term for Gods revealed will, which directs a
person in a right relationship in Him. It represents God's entire
instruction to His people.
2. The testimony--Gods true word which testifies to His character and
will (1 John 5:9), the study of which makes us wise (2Timothy 3:15)
3. The Statutes--definite rules concerning righteous living that are a
joy to the godly.
4. The commandments--the authorative source of guiding light for the
faithful who seek His way (Acts 26:18). The proper response to God's
commandments to fear the Lord, which brings freedom from a life of sin.
5. The judgments--laws governing social life, which lead to justice and
righteousness. God judgments are His verdicts as Divine judge regarding
the actions of people with one another
Psalms 119:1-16
Ways--represent those pricipals and means of operation by which God
relates to His people and advances His redemption in the earth. His ways
are contrary to humanistice wisdom and values (Isaiah 55:8-9)
Precepts--they involve detailed instruction from the Lord
Gods word represents both His revelation in general and His
commandments and promises.
Gods commandments refer to rules and regulations that express God's
authority and will for His people and that He expects us to obey.
Romans 12:2 Be transformed by the renewing of your mind. The word of
God shows us what he thinks about righteous living and how he hates sinful
living.
