Priest------kohen a
minister, a personal attendant, an officer. The kohen was the Lord's
personal attendant, one whose entire life revolved around Yahweh's service
both through ministering in the tabernacle (or temple) and in carrying the
burden of the people to the Lord as priest (Exodus 28:1) 1 Chronicles
23:26-32 2 Chronicles 23 Lev.1
1 Peter 2:4-12 Because the Lord has chosen us to be a people for
Himself, we have certain responsibilities toward Him. Obedience is very
important. So many people are walking around not knowing who they are and
what they are called to do. Our calling is to serve the Lord Jesus Christ
in every opportunity we have. To serve God is to serve people through
teaching His word, giving to the poor, mentoring the young comfort the
aged and whatever else the Lord may reveal.
An Holy Priesthood.
In the O.T. the priesthood was restricted to a qualified minority. They
had to be of the priestly bloodline. Their distinctive activity was to
offer sacrifices to God on behalf of His people and to communicate
directly with God. (Exodus 28:1; 2 Chronicles 29:11) Now through Jesus
Christ, (our High Priest), every Christian has been made a priest before
God (Rev. 1:6; 5:10; 20:6)
The priesthood of all believers means the following:
1. All believers have direct access to God through Christ 1 Peter 3:18;
John 14:6; Eph.2:18)
2. All believers are under obligation to live a holy life (1 Peter
1:13-17; 2:5,9)
3. All believers must offer up spiritual sacrifices to God including;
(a) living in obedience to God and nonconformity to the world (Romans
12:1-2) (b) praying to and praising God (Psalms 50:14; Heb. 13:15) (c)
serving with whole hearts and willing minds (1 Chronicles 28:9; Eph.5:1-2;
Phil 2:17) (d) performing good deeds (Hebrews 13:16) (e) giving of our
material possessions (Romans 12:13; Phil 4:18): and (f) presenting our
bodies to God as instruments of righteousness (Romans 6:13,19)
4. All believers must intercede and pray for one another and for all
people (Col. 4:12; 1 Tim. 2:1; Rev. 8:3)
5. All believers must declare the Word and pray for its success (Acts
4:31; 1 Corinthians 14:26' 2 Thessalonians 3:1)
6. All believers may administer baptism and the Lord's supper (Matthew
28:19, Acts 2:38; Luke 22:19)
A Holy Nation. Believers are set apart from the world in order to
belong completely to God (Titus 2:14) and to proclaim the gospel of His
salvation to His praise and glory.
